This event will be on

to

MicroLab2 is a day long workshop series focusing on Micro dancing followed by an evening social dance. The first MicroLab sold out very quickly, so we are doing another one!

What is Micro???
Micro dancing is a practice in mindfulness and connection. We dance subtly, softly, in sync with our partner. Every movement and every breath is intentional and connected. It's also very small, often invisible to an outside viewer. It’s a place of shared vulnerability and acceptance...and trust. The mechanics of micro are tiny movements including but not limited to- breathing, upper and lower body isolations, gentleness, tiny flows-rolls-waves, hugs, squeezes, and more. Micro is a state of surrender, to yourself, the music, and your partner.

Instructors:

EMILY WEBB (SF)
In 1996 Emily Webb began her love affair with partner dance. Through the years Emily has studied Tango, Swing, Salsa, Blues, and Fusion dance with some of the top instructors in the world. Today Tango and Fusion remain Emily's greatest dance loves.

Thousands of students across the US and Canada have benefited from Emily's dynamic and interactive teaching style. Through her years of teaching experience Emily has learned to make even the most complex movements simple and build them from the ground up. This means you will not only look good while you dance, but feel great to your partners too!

CHARLES OGAR (TEXAS)
Charles got his first taste of dance at the age of 8 in elementary through a program called "Believe In Me". In elementary and middle school he also played the flute, piano, and alto saxophone which gave him a keen sense of rhythm and musicality. He first learned the basic steps for salsa in his first year of college.

Charles soon found himself taking weekly classes and going out social dancing religiously. He quickly gained a strong foot in the basics and began adding his own energetic style and flavor. From here, Charles expanded his dancing to bachata, punta, samba, cha-cha, salsa on2, a bit of Cuban salsa, and now Kizomba. Charles loves how Kizomba/Urban Kiz uniquely embodies the connection between the ground, your partner, and the music.

MARK CARPENTER (OAKLAND)

JOE GRAY (EAST BAY)
Joe is a movement arts professional, a dance facilitator, and creativity explorer. He is passionate about collaborating with other artists and communities to spread the beauty and power of fusion partner dance. His unique style of movement includes influences from hip hop, contact improvisation, blues, swing, kizomba, and breaking. With over 20 years of solo and partnered dance experience, Joe has become a master at fusing these styles together in a dynamic and accessible way. His specialty is integrating partner dance with hip hop and urban dance styles.
Joe's workshops enhance your somatic interactions with other humans, enabling more intentional and mindful relations. Embody your spiritual and emotional energy and dive deeper into the dance with self, the dance of your community and the dance of life. Feel empowered within a playful, consensual and safe movement space.
Dance is in our DNA. It is our biology. It is life.
